Fertility Enhancement Program: Homeopathy & TCM – a potent mix!
October 15, 2016 / Leave a comment
Infertility is defined as the inability to conceive after 12 months of trying. Being unable to conceive a child can be heartbreaking for a couple and has broken more than a few good marriages. Homeopathy and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are a powerful combination that offers hope to the childless couple by establishing equilibrium within the body.
The empirical evidence for the benefit of acupuncture and TCM in conception problems can be found in Chinese medical literature dating back over 2000 years. Homeopathy and TCM improve the chances of becoming pregnant as they enhance the function of the entire body. They provide a key to unlocking unlimited healing potential in each person I treat. This process is beneficial for all, but especially important for people struggling with infertility as it provides an overall health boost which in turn boosts reproductive health.
It is important to note that my treatment does not exclude mainstream medical ideas and techniques; In my care it is likely that both partners will be required to go for assessments with a gynae, urologist or specialist technician to clarify the underlying condition and to provide benchmarks against which to measure progress of the treatment - There are overwhelming benefits to making use of some of the technologies that exist for our own purposes!
And even though western medical methods for treating infertility are complicated, expensive and often degrading and tend to complicate and aggravate underlying conditions, (and meta-analysis generally indicates a relatively low success rate) - this just makes alternative methods such as TCM and Homeopathy begin to seem more attractive.
With even the best of intentions there are those who will not be successful with this system; indeed there are many couples who could not possibly achieve conception without medical assistance: in such instances this system can still be used to tone the uterus and maximize uterine blood flow so that medical fertility treatments can be more effective. It can also minimize the undesired side effects and accumulated toxicity from invasive procedures and drug therapies. Indeed, it is well established via the benchmark double-blind type study that acupuncture, used accurately, significantly enhances the success rate of standard IVF procedures. Many couples have used my treatment over the years in this way.
Homeopathy and TCM treat infertility on the basis of a careful differential diagnosis to resolve underlying patterns of disharmony. TCM addresses either a "deficient" condition that leads to poor nourishment of the body and organs or an "excess" condition that obstructs the organs and meridians (energy channels). Homeopathic care endeavours to identify the issues in the patient’s constitution, environment and lifestyle, the so called “obstacles to cure” and, through medication and/or advice, assist the patient to change harmful patterns of behaviour and response.
Your treatment is always individualized. In addition to acupuncture and medication, lifestyle changes are crucial-proper diet, stress reduction and regular exercise need to accompany treatment. Everything you do to better your chances will be repaid in full!

| If, like thousands of women, you have come to the end of the road in trying to conceive, read about how Acupuncture may be able to assist you: Acupuncture is ideal to work in conjunction with women undergoing assisted conception treatment and can greatly enhance your chances of conceiving. Acupuncture-enhanced fertility treatment has been shown to have benefits when used in conjunction with IVF and ICSI, and the stimulation of ovaries to produce eggs. The fertility benefits of acupuncture: 1. Increase blood flow to the Uterus improving your chances of fertilization. 2. Improving Uterine wall thickness ideal to combat endometriosis. 3. Increase endorphin production that in turn affects the release of gonadotropin-releasing hormone involved in regulating reproduction. 4. Aids follicle stimulation via improving plasma ratios of the sex hormones. For the man: improved sperm morphology and motility. Depending on the presenting condition, the time scales for treatment can vary greatly. |
IVF Support
October 15, 2016 / Leave a comment
At least half of my patients have decided to use acupuncture as an adjunctive therapy to assist their chances of success with IVF
This means I need to be effective in providing support for those patients. I also, through long experience, am very aware of the emotional and financial difficulties, the mood swings and relationship stresses and the anxieties of each part of the treatment and the wait for the result.
I take into account each individual couple's case history - the reasons for choosing assisted reproductive techniques, the struggles you have already been through and the implications for your lifestyles, family and jobs.
IVF is a choice and it is usually a positive choice. It is important to remember this and to go into it optimistically. I know from experience that acupuncture and the relaxation techniques I teach very much help the experience of IVF and make it less of an emotional drain.
I recommend that a couple comes to see me 3 months before starting IVF. This gives me, and you, a chance to address issues, especially those linked to diet and stress. The earlier you come, the more chance there is of improving sperm and egg quality for your IVF cycle.
Acupuncture is also essential during the IVF cycle. Usually weekly sessions are given during the down-regulating phase, weekly or bi-weekly during the stimulating phase; then once pre, and once post embryo-transfer. I also suggest you come once around 'implantation' (approximately day 5-6 post fertilisation) and during the wait for results as acupuncture is very effective in helping you to keep calm and anxiety levels low.
I always recommend regular treatment through to the end of the first trimester once pregnancy is confirmed.
